Basketball

Basketball is a team sport in which two teams, typically consisting of five players each, compete to score points by shooting a ball through the opponent’s elevated hoop and backboard. The game is played on a rectangular court with a hoop at each end. Points are scored by making field goals from various distances, with different point values assigned depending on the location of the shot, and by free throws awarded after certain fouls.

Basketball emphasizes skills such as dribbling, passing, shooting, and defensive strategies. The sport is governed by rules set by various organizations, with the National Basketball Association (NBA) being one of the most prominent professional leagues in the world. It originated in the United States in the late 19th century and has since grown into a popular sport globally, featuring organized competitions at amateur and professional levels. Basketball also promotes teamwork, strategy, and physical fitness among its players.
