Football

Football, often referred to as soccer in some countries, is a team sport played between two teams of eleven players each. The objective of the game is to score goals by getting a spherical ball into the opposing team’s net. Players primarily use their feet to control the ball, although they can use any part of their body except their arms and hands (with the exception of goalkeepers).

The game is played on a rectangular field known as a pitch, which is marked with lines for different areas, including the penalty area and corner arcs. A standard football match consists of two halves, each lasting 45 minutes, with a 15-minute halftime break. The team that scores the most goals wins the match; if the score is tied, the game may end in a draw or go into extra time or penalty shootouts, depending on the rules of the competition.

Football is the world’s most popular sport, with millions of players and fans globally, and has various professional leagues, international tournaments, and governing bodies, most notably FIFA (Fédération Internationale de Football Association). The sport is known for its rich history, cultural significance, and ability to unite people from different backgrounds.
